| Abstract | As mudanças de uso e cobertura da terra estão ocorrendo em passos acelerados, principalmente em áreas que compõem a fronteira do arco de desmatamento. O levantamento de informações e o monitoramento das alterações de uso e cobertura da terra são imprescindíveis para a compreensão dos processos de mudança, além da modelagem de seus impactos no meio ambiente. Portanto, este estudo tem como objetivo detectar as mudanças no uso e cobertura da terra no município de Cláudia MT, localizado no eixo da BR-163. Para tanto, foram classifi cadas imagens de satélite de quatro décadas e geradas tabelas de estatística de detecção de mudanças, possibilitando traçar um panorama geral das mudanças que ocorreram no município. Os resultados demonstraram que entre 1985 e 2013 houve a conversão de 1214.3 km² da cobertura vegetal nativa. Essas áreas desmatadas foram destinadas, principalmente, para a agropecuária. ABSTRACT: Land use and land cover (LULC) changes are occurring rapidly, above all in areas that compose the boundary arc of deforestation. The survey information and monitoring of LULC changes are indispensable to understand the changes processes, besides modeling the impact of changes on the environment. Therefore, this study aims to detect the land use and land cover changes in the county of Cláudia MT, located on the axis of BR-163. For it we classifi ed satellite data of four decades and generated change detection tables, to give an overview of land use and land cover changes. The results demonstrated that between 1985 and 2013 1214.3 km² of vegetation cover were converted. These disforested areas were converted, mainly, to soy bean production and cattle rising. | |||
